RELEVÉ 2024

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Relevé 2024 after the most amazing first year in April 2023. We are a dance and performing arts competition housed in a professional Theatre promising a weekend of dance, theatre, competition and celebration to highlight the talent and expertise of the competitors.

We are pleased to be returning to the prestigious:

The Marketplace Theatre Armagh

FRI 23RD - SUN 25TH FEBRUARY 2024

Dancers from across the island will come together to compete, celebrate and grow in their art form.

Relevé has 3 pillars…

COMPETITION – performers will be able to show off their incredible talents across a variety of styles. We will offer competition categories for solos, duets, trios and groups. Entrants will be assessed across ability, talent, individuality and technique.

CELEBRATION - anyone who enters the competition can sign up for one of the Relevé exclusive MEDIA PACKS A huge hit in our first year, we can’t wait for them to make a comeback featuring some exciting changes. These will be a great way to capture talent through professional photography, film and portfolio. Media Packs will be available for presale ahead of the event, and onsale over the weekend and for the week after the competition. Packages coming soon!

CRITIQUE – as a particularly special element of Relevé, we want our performers to have the opportunity to learn from the best in the business. AUDIO CRITIQUE upgrades can be added to the media packs where a working professional choreographer will be able to give real time critique on the dances for performers to take home and grow in their craft.

 MAKING RELEVÉ  2024 EVEN BETTER

It goes without saying that we are already hosting from a top quality venue, using hand-picked professional judges, and that Relevé is professional, safe event that everyone has an incredible time at.

We are excited to introduce not 3, but 4 judges to Relevé this year. These will be revealed soon…

When the Relevé team reached out to our Dance Schools after year one, we were given some very useful, constructive feedback, which we have considered, taken on board and adapted to the best of our abilities. Our team are always learning and strive to do better every year, keeping our dancers our no.1 priority. Feedback is crucial for us, and we are so happy that school’s agreed to engage with this.

VENUE:

NAME IN LIGHTS:

All of the feedback regarding venue choice was so positive, you all loved the theatre environment, we did too! Seeing your children’s name in lights shining on our bespoke LED Screen was a highlight for many (watch this space for an even bigger screen next year!)

We have decided this year that our judges will focus on scoring (see judging section below) the performance to ensure they are fully involved in the judging process. If an individual would like more detailed feedback from judges, this can be done via audio critique in a media pack. This will ensure all eyes on stage to witness each and every step.

The group performances last year were nothing short of amazing. Large groups in multiple genres meant for some super quick changes and breathless dancers and teachers. This year we will do our utmost to space out the group performances for a more enjoyable day. We are also planning a “quick change” area close to the stage.

2024 will see a mix-up of the genres a little bit more to add even more excitement to the running order. Speaking of genres, we have removed the “open” category and divided it out. See ‘performance styles’ below.

We believe some things are the absolute embodiment of the pillar of celebration that Relevé stands for. We are happy to announce the return of two exciting aspects:

Song and Dance (Music Theatre)

We will offer a specific Song and Dance section separate to the other styles performing on each day. This will be across all age groups and open to solos, duo’s, trio’s, small and large groups.

The older (11+) solo, duo & trio performers will have a headset mic, so that all of their hard work and talent can be seen AND heard! These were a big hit last year and really made the performers feel really professional. We urge these thespians, that the mic aspect of their performance be taken into account when designing the choreography as any damage to equipment will dampen proceedings. Younger performers (8&U) and groups will use stage mics provided. Please note mics are not mandatory.

We hope this allows those triple threat performers to have a spotlight to really highlight their talents.

Beginner’s exclusive category (Newcomer)

Everyone has to start somewhere and that can be at any age. We wanted everyone to be able to participate in Relevé regardless if they have only been performing for a few months. Feedback from last years participants was that the newcomer section was really valuable. May we remind schools to pay special attention when applying to this section. This section will be for SOLOS only and will be for performers who are NEW TO DANCE – training for 18 months or less. We ask that all studios respect the sentiment that this category is intended for, and ONLY submit dancers who have been training for 18 months or less.

We want this to be the dancer’s first taste of competing and celebrating their craft, and hope it encourages and pushes them forward on their journey.

If someone is competing in the Beginners exclusive category, they cannot also compete in the regular section. i.e. a Beginner 14 and under Jazz soloist cannot also be a regular 14 and under Jazz soloist.

*Please note the ability to provide this category will be number dependent and subject to change. Please select “NEWCOMER” on your entry form when applying as beginner.

There is a limit to the number of entries we can take for Relevé. These are offered on a first come first served basis from the Production Team. Although our deadline for entries is Monday 6th November 2023, we strongly urge you to get your entries to Relevé as quickly as you can to avoid disappointment.
